A Placeholder to help remind me of this year's goals.

    1) Continue to advance in my career
    2) Continue to make sure the kids on my hockey team learn about the game, improve, and have fun.
    3) Against my better judgement, coach my son's baseball team, have the kids learn about the game, improve, and have fun. Also, not to kill any over zealous failed athlete parents.
    4) Get my Golf Handicap down to a 4.0 from 5.2 (http://r.ghinconnect.com/gh/iihbp81.cgi?c=0920601&g=7956313)
    5) Drop 10 pounds
    6) Take my daughter out on the golf course puttering around twice a week (Weather permitting)
    7) Golf with my wife once a week (Weather permitting)
    8) Win a five figure Poker Tourney.

    Quote of the year
I was using my laptop at a different facility at work a few days ago, set up in an abandoned cubicle surrounded by engineers when I hear the following said during a conversation about the upcoming Star Wars movie....

Engineer A: "some blah, blah, blah about Star Wars nerds and conventions..."
Engineer B: "Yeah, well I've got to admit, I went to a Star Trek convention, but I didn't dress up."

At this point I had to interrupt, my eyes rolled into the back of my head and yelled over the cubicle, "You did not just say that. That's like saying 'I took a hit off the Nerd Bong, but didn't inhale.'"

Engineer B is a great guy, an active father, but a blatant nerd and revels in it. I almost felt bad for jumping him, but he took it in the context I intended.

"But I didn't dress up." Well, that changes everything.

    Arrrrrgggggghhhhh
Finally decided that my game was good enough to play the $20 Stud H/L game at PStars. Was down to $430 about 60 hands into the tourney, scooped a few decent hands, and put myself in position to do well. When it was down to two tables (from 190 players at the start), I started watching the other table. My table had two guys to the left of me that seemed determined to knock each other out, and at the time were in the top 5 in chips, along with me. I was unable to get a decent starting hand to join the action between these two. On the other table, I made a mental note that two players, GaryR and Sosumi seemed to be the far and away the class of the field. Man, I'm tired of being right.

The final table consisted of 3 players with 15K or less in chips (Total of 285K in play), 4 at 25-40K, and the hammer, Sosumi, at 140K+. Sosumi and GaryR proceeded to cull the field down to four before I tried to stand up to Sosumi. I end up getting rubbed out missing four to a low and four to a flush on the final card, granted it was a no-brainer call for Sosumi, given that he had me dominated on the board when I started jamming back). Looking back, I shouldn't be as disappointed as I was with how I did, I improved two spots based on starting chip counts at the final table and managed to avoid the steamroller known as Sosumi longer than half the table. Well, time to buy a book on 7S H/L, I think I've gone as far as I can being self taught.

    The final table:

    A necessary evil
I have a blog. This may be the only entry I evermake , since my motivation for creating a Live Journal blog is to allow me to read other people's blog's that I find interesting. I may make comments from time to time as I see fit, but don't hold your breath.
